Well, the cabinets are almost all in and they look really good. The creamy and distressed finish matches the feel of the home perfectly. As seen in the photos the darker gold and brown grooves built into the door design adds needed relief to the cream wash and ties the dark brown and gold floors in to the whole plan.
The cabinets, Canadian made, European in style, were perfect for our home as they possessed legs, much like that found on washers or dryers, where the height and level of the item could be minutely altered. This feature proved very important in a home whose floors are still not 100% level and never will be.
These "Vintage Vanilla Glaze" cabinets which were somewhat costly, but not custom, also came in almost every size and shape imaginable which was important for us since we had chosen a small area for our kitchen and wanted every possible space used for storage. Some may wonder if some of our 9" wide cabinets are practical but we say they are! These smaller cabinets, coupled with larger, more ‘regular' sized compartments, are perfect for drinking glasses, cup towels, etc. These narrow cabinets are also deep to frying pans and other narrow cookware will also fit nicely.
Now with the cabinets almost all in we are getting the countertop delivered (which we changed at the last minute and then the kitchen sink and appliances will arrive on site. Could it be? Could we actually be nearing the end of our home renovation? Well, there is still plenty to finish and the exterior landscaping and barn leveling has not started, but at least we now know that moving in this summer will be in the cards.
