"Saturday's the day," says Jamie Sorenson. "We're going to hit you like a hurricane. You're going to know we're here."
Sorensen is the Regional Route coordinator for the prairies Olympic Torch Relay, and she's in Clarenville this week preparing the advance team for the torch that is to arrive on Saturday.
Nov. 14 will bring Olympic Spirit to town as 27 torchbearers get their hands on the Olympic Flame. They will be among 12,000 torchbearers across the country to have the priviledge of carrying the flame.
Clarenville will be the 9th celebration Sorensen has taken part in. "I've seen how exciting and emotional it's been for people so far," she says.
The flame has been travelling since Oct. 30, and will touch down in 1,037 communities before landing in Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic Games.
In Clarenville, 79-year-old Harry O'Gay will carry the torch on the final leg to the Clarenville Events Centre, where he will light the cauldron.
Celebrations will begin at 11:00 a.m., with local music and dance combined with national entertainment. Everyone is welcome to attend the outdoor party at the new Events Centre parking lot.
The flame relay and parade will run from Memorial Drive across from Hickman Motors, to the intersection of Manitoba Drive. Runners will continue up Manitoba Drive to Balckmore Avenue and finally into the Events Centre parking lot.
