The Avalon, Burin and Bonavista peninsulas are under a storm warning, while Clarenville and vicinity is under a storm watch, with significant snowfall expected Saturday.
According to Environment Canada, up to 30 centimeters of snow is expected to accumulate by Saturday evening. Strong winds and blowing snow will cause reduced visibilities overnight tonight and Saturday.
A deep low pressure system south of Newfoundland will slowly move to lie east of the Avalon Peninsula by Saturday evening. Snow associated with this system will develop over Southeastern Newfoundland this evening and spread northward through the night.
For areas under a winter storm watch: there is still some uncertainty in the track of this system and a further west track would lead to a significant increase in snowfall amounts. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and bulletins as warnings may be extended.
