This year's recreational groundfish fishery will run from July 21 to Aug. 12. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) made the announcement yesterday.

A fall fishery is scheduled for Sept. 22-30.

The recreational groundfish fishery will occur in all NAFO areas around

Newfoundland and Labrador, which includes 2GH, 2J3KL, 3Ps, 3Pn, and 4R.

The public is reminded that fishing is not permitted in the Eastport and

Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Areas.

Management measures will be the same as in 2011, including a daily bag limit of five groundfish per day (including cod) and a maximum boat limit of 15 fish when three or more people are fishing. This includes tour boats.

More details can be found at http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/decisions/fm-2012-gp/atl-026-eng.htm or by calling 1-709-772-4423 for recreational fishing information.
