Erin Bursey, captain of MUN’s women's volleyball team, passed away Tuesday evening, succumbing to her injuries from a pedestrian-vehicle accident Saturday evening in St. John’s, according to Memorial University’s website mun.ca.
On the website it stated: “It is with deep sadness that Memorial Athletics announces the passing of one of our best and brightest student-athletes.
“Erin epitomized the definition of student-athlete, a two-time CIS Academic All Canadian, an athlete that competed fearlessly and always left it all out on the floor.
“A leader and friend among her teammates and varsity athletes across all sports, her presence will be missed. Erin was a multi-scholarship award winner, most recently winning the prestigious Frank T. Butler Memorial Scholarship, presented to a student-athlete that best combines athletic commitment, academic success and contribution as an ambassador in the community. She certainly left an amazing mark on the multiple community groups that she gave of her time as a volunteer.
“Erin recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology and was looking forward to a return to school in September to complete her 5th year of eligibility and was excited at the possibility to compete at home in the 2013 AUS Women's Volleyball championships.”
