Owen Blundon, owner operator of OMB Parts and Industrial, accepts his Clarenville and Area Chamber of COmmerce Hall of Fame award from Terra Nova MHA Colin Holloway.
Blundon got his start in business in 1980 with M and M Sand and Gravel, beginning with one backhoe.
He moved on to commercial trucking — starting with one truck and building to a fleet of 10 vehicles — hauling fish products across the province.
He diversified into land development during the 1990s and eventually to retail – opening his truck parts shop OMB Parts and Industrial, in 2000, and expanding it to recreational vehicles and other products.
His wife, Marlene, was with him from the beginning and was by his side tonight as he accepted the award.
Blundon says he was only told he was being inducted into the Hall of Fame a week ago and is still in shock.
“I’ve always been involved in the community. We employed the people in the business and at the end of the day the way I look at is they are all family,” Blundon told The Packet.
“I don’t only have one family, I have 20 – 30 families.”
