The Clarenville Caribous won one and lost one on the road this past weekend.

Their victory was earned at Mount Pearl on Saturday night, where they upset the Blades 4-1 at the Glacier.

Their defeat came at the hands of the Conception Bay CeeBees on Sunday afternoon in Harbour Grace.

On Saturday night, the Bous jumped to the lead in opening period scoring two markers, with captain Dustin Russell and Steve Yetman collecting the poitns.

The Blades closed the gap to 2-1 in the second, but that was as close as they would come in the contest.

Brad Crann and Andrew Sweetland each scored in the final frame to put the game out of reach.

Tending net for the Caribous was Devin O’Brien who put in a strong performance in all three periods to record the win.

Sunday was a different picture altogether for Clarenville.

The CeeBees struck three times in the opening frame. Mike Dyke fired a shot past Caribous’ goaltender O’Brien on a power play marker at 11:56.

Six minutes later the CeeBees increased their lead to 2-0 when Colin Feehan hit the back of the net on a pass from Ray Dalton and Donnie Gosse.

With less than a minute remaining in the period, Dan Curran picked up his first goal of the season, finishing a pass from Delaney, his second assist of the game.

The second period was scoreless.

The CeeBees took a 5-0 lead after 10 minutes of play in the third period on goals from Steven Greeley and Feehan.

Brandon Roach got the Caribous on the board at 9:30 of the final frame. The unassisted goal came off a shot from the point that fooled Jewer.

Dustin Russell took a pass from Steve Yetman and put the puck past Jewer to pull the Caribous to within three with five minutes left to play. Dale Sullivan picked up the assist.

The Caribous used some slick passing in the CeeBees end zone when Ryan Desrosiers picked up his league-leading seventh goal of the season to make the score 5-3.

That was as close as the Caribous would come Sunday afternoon, as the CeeBees were able to hold off the charge.

The Caribous hold down top spot in the league with 15 points. One point back with 14 points is the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts. The Corner Brook Royals are in third in the standings with 10 points followed by the Mount Pearl Blades and the CeeBee Stars with nine and eight points respectively.

The Caribous are back home this weekend for a pair of games against the Mount Pearl Blades.

Fans are reminded that Saturday night’s game is also the annual Clarenville Caribous teddy toss.
