During The Salvation Army advisory board’s Red Shield luncheon Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in St. John’s, The Salvation Army presented Friends of the Army Awards to Transcontinental Media and Steele Communications for outstanding contribution to the work of The Salvation Army following Hurricane Igor in the fall of 2010. Transcontinental Media, through its local book publishing company Creative Book Publishing, compiled the pictorial book “Hurricane Igor, In the Eye of the Storm.” Proceeds of the sale of the book went to assist victims of Hurricane Igor by way of The Salvation Army. Steele Communications, through VOCM Cares Foundation, held a radio-thon on its various radio stations, the proceeds of which also went to help alleviate the devastation caused by the hurricane.
