The Town of Port Blandford and the heritage society are partnering with Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador to bring a Green Team back again this summer.

According to a news release, community gardening will be a major focus for this year’s program, along with tourism and culture. The Green Team will be receiving a hydroponic kit for year-round growing.

Four youth from the community – team leader Brittany Holloway, Tyler Chatman, Calista Greening and Jillian Skiffington – make up this year’s team who are already hard at work.

They have been maintaining heritage society sites in the community and making the town more aesthetically beautiful for the residents and visitors. They have also started a ukulele group for children and seniors and a gardening program.

Port Blandford Mayor Chad Holloway said the town is pleased to partner with the Conservation Corps once more. It’s the third year in a row the town has had a Green team.

“It has been a great opportunity for students in our area, and over the past several years many great projects have been completed in our town,” he said.

The Conservation Corps has offered the Green Team program in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1993.
