It’s hard to believe that summer is over and kids are already back to school. It seems like this summer went by so fast, and it certainly feels that way when you are having fun.

We had a great summer program at the Clarenville and Area Community Youth Network. We registered 26 kids, aged eight to 12 for the eight week program.

At the beginning of July, we had the visit of the Department of Oceans & Fisheries, who made a presentation about marine life. They also explained the work they do everyday.

A few of the kids already showed a lot of interest and I won’t be surprised if they decide to take this career path in the future.

We also visited Forestry NL — a visit that the kids enjoyed very much.

They learned about forest fires and also reforestation, and they also had the chance to plant trees using the equipment they use.

As Youthtube is a non-profit organization, we rely on local businesses and companies to support and sponsor our programs, and we want to thank Sobeys for organizing a BBQ fundraiser where all the proceeds were donated to us. Not to mention, all the fun the kids had helping out.

Painting, gardening, hikes to bare mountain and nature walks were also part of the activities that we enjoyed.

During the month of August, the kids also enjoyed the visit to the Fire Hall, they tried on the firefighter’s suit and mask and took an up-close look of the inside of a fire truck.

And because Health and Wellness is also an important piece of our mandate, we had the visit of Tracey Fleming from ERCAV to talk about the importance of having Healthy Friendships, games, activities and a special meal was added to the presentation.

Visits to the playground, outdoor zumba, sports and themed parties completed the month of August.

A big thank you to all parents for choosing us as the place for your kids to spend the summer, and also big thanks to Emily, Rachel and Robert, our students who run this summer program.

Now that September is here, we are back to offering our free after school programs. To join us, just drop by our centre and fill up a registration form. Bring friends with you!

Our programs run Monday to Friday from 3-6 p.m. Visit our website: www.youthtubecyn.com or like our FB page: Youthtube coordinator to get our latest calendar of activities. Wishing all the kids and youth a great school year 2017-18.
