FURLONG, Michael Francis -  age 98 yrs, passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on January 25, 2010. Predeceased by parents, Samuel and Martha Furlong, brother, James, adopted sister, Bridget Walsh, wife, Nellie, son Samuel, son-in-law, Thomas Ricketts and many other cherished family members and friends. Left with fond and loving memories are his sons, Samuel and Michael (Anne Marie), daughter, Mary Ricketts, grandchildren, Joy Ricketts-Hayter (Richard), Michael, Matthew and a very extensive circle of family and friends. He was known as Mike France or Skipper and his bright smile, wise jokes and the attitude of living each day as it was, for tomorrow may never come, made everyone in his presence feel welcomed. He always enjoyed a good trip in the water and a daily drink or two, he will be greatly missed by many but will always hold a special place in the hearts of the people that knew him. Thanks to all that was there for him and his family throughout this difficult time and a special thank you to the staff at the hospital for showing such tender care for the skipper. Rested at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Plate Cove from where the funeral service, officiated by Father David Joy, took place on Thursday, January 28, 2010 with interment following.
