ELLISTON, N.L. — After an initial report of a polar bear in Elliston this week, conservation officers say the animal appears to have returned to the ice on the ocean.

In a statement from the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources, they say they received the report about a possible polar bear in the area on Thursday night.

“Two departmental Conservation Officers are in the area today to investigate,” read the statement.

After following the bear’s tracks, they say the animal appears to have travelled back out on the ice.

The Department says officers are continuing to monitor the situation.
