ELLISTON, N.L. — Bonavista RCMP have confirmed there was a report of a polar bear in Elliston on the night of Wednesday, March 7.

Sgt. Terry Greening told The Packet on Friday they received a call yesterday, Thursday, March 8, that there was a polar bear in the Elliston area.

“We went down, there was no polar bear seen, (but) there were tracks in the area,” said Sgt. Greening.

He says they passed the information on to the Wildlife division of the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources.

Reports on Facebook confirm Wildlife officials were in the area Thursday evening.

Last year, there were many different sightings of polar bears in the Trinity and Bonavista Bay areas.

One bear was shot and killed by wildlife officials in Little Catalina.

The Packet will have more information as it becomes available.
