CLARENVILLE, N.L. — With the first major snowfall happening just as Christmas arrived, many members have been skiing and snowshoeing throughout the holiday season!
It was such a treat to be able to ski and snowshoe over the Christmas break and we were so happy to see people out being active during the holidays! In fact, as of Sunday January 7th, the club already has 201 members registered for the 2018 season. It’s never too late to join our club.
This coming weekend is the club’s annual kickoff for the winter season. Back 2 Snow weekend is a celebration of winter and the many ways you can get out and enjoy it with our club.
The first event for the weekend is on Friday night, January 12th. We will have a winter equipment YARD SALE set-up at the Clarenville Events Centre from 7-9 p.m. We are asking people with winter gear to sell (including: Nordic Skis, Snowshoes, Nordic Ski Boots, and Ski Poles) to drop items off between on Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. The Yard Sale will open at 7 p.m. . Also, we will have a classic ski waxing session at 7:30 p.m., followed by a skate ski waxing session at approximately 8:00 p.m. There is no fee to attend the waxing sessions.
We have moved our registration to an ONLINE service known as ZONE 4, so members can actually sign up now online anytime, but if you want some assistance, email the club (email@example.com) and we will help you register
On Saturday January 13th we will have a classic ski clinic and a skate ski clinic at 11:00 a.m. These clinics are designed for beginners, as well as for people looking to refresh and refine their ski technique! Clinics are one of the perks of being a member! The trails are in GREAT shape and people will enjoy skiing and snowshoeing during the day! Be sure to check our club’s Twitter and Facebook pages to ensure the clinics are going ahead in the event of inclement weather.
Later in the evening, on Saturday January 13, we will have our annual SNOWDANCE and silent auction at the White Hills resort. Tickets are 15.00 at the door, which will open at 8:30 p.m. Three Shades of Grey will provide live music for the dance and we have some excellent items up for grabs at the Silent Auction! This is an event that is open to the public - we would love to see the White Hills chalet full of winter enthusiasts for the SNOWDANCE!
On Sunday there will be a snowshoe tour commencing at 2 p.m. People who are interested are asked to meet at the Lee Churchill chalet for 1:45 to get ready for the 2 p.m. departure. The tour is approximately 5 km and will take in Harry’s Loop and Pete’s Trail.
Also, the first JACKRABBIT lesson session will take place on Sunday afternoon from 2-3 p.m. We will have the official opening and ribbon cutting of the new SKI PLAYGROUND, which was built as part of the Canada 150 grant project for our club. If you are interested in more details about this learning to ski program, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, we will have a soup social at 3 p.m. back at the Lee Churchill Chalet to close out the Back 2 Snow Weekend celebrations! It is always a great weekend of fun and memories and this year we have lots of SNOW! Some years we haven’t had a flake, so this could very well be the BEST BACK 2 Snow Weekend EVER! See you there! Watch Facebook and Twitter for more details! Don’t forget that members often meet at the White Hills Resort for an apres ski/snowshoe beverage and social Saturdays and Sundays around 3:30-4 p.m.
See you on the trails,
