Dynamite Edges provincial champs in synchro
The Dynamite Edges of the Flying Blades Skating Club in Clarenville won gold this past weekend at the 2017 Skate Canada NL Provincial Synchronized Skating Championship.
The Danny Cleary Community Centre in Harbour Grace will be abuzz this weekend as the province’s best pee wee players go to battle for the AAA provincial title.
The five competing teams – host Tri Pen Ice, Central Ice Pak, Western Kings, St. John’s Hitmen and Tri Com Thunder – will face off in a single round robin followed by a championship round on Sunday.
The teams already competed in a 28-game regular season and playoffs.
Up for grabs at the tournament is a chance to represent the province at the Bell Aliant Atlantic Regional Championships alongside the Thunder, which already have a berth as hosts of the April 6-9 event.
This year’s Atlantics will recognize a significant anniversary – the host Cee Bees Minor Hockey Association won the tournament 25 years ago.
Future NHLer Danny Cleary was a member of the team, which was coached by the late Dick Power, a Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador Hall of Famer.
