Nominations close today for 2017 Clarenville Area Recreation Association awards

Today is the last day for nominations for the Clarenville Area Recreation Association (CARA) awards.

The awards are set to be presented in a ceremony at the Eastlink Events Centre (EEC) on Wednesday, May 31 at 7 p.m.
The following award winners, with their corresponding criteria, will be chosen again this year:
• Peter S. Cholock Senior Female and Male Athletes of the Year, presented annually to a deserving senior male and female athlete who excels in one or more sport during the year (May 2015 to April 2016). They will be judged on their excellence in sports achievement and recognition during their seasonal participation.
• Special Olympic Male and Female Athlete of the Year, presented annually to a deserving male and female Special Olympic athlete who excels in one or more sports during the year of eligibility. They will be judged on their excellence in sports achievement and recognition during their seasonal participation.
• William T. Davis Senior Team of the Year, presented annually to the senior team of the year who demonstrates outstanding performance and achievement in a sports specific category.
• CARA Junior Female and Male Athlete of the Year, presented annually to a deserving athlete who excels in one or more sport during the year (May to April). They will be judged on their excellence in sports achievement and recognition during their seasonal participation.
• CARA Junior Team of the Year, presented to the team of the year who demonstrates outstanding performance and achievement in a sports specific category.
• Leroy Miller Sports Builder of the Year, presented to an individual who excels in the promotion and development of sports and recreation activities in the local area and at all times upholds the ideals and attitudes of the Association.
• Lions Senior Volunteer of the Year, presented to an individual who volunteers his or her time for the betterment of the community over the past year or years (not necessarily recreation related).
• Lions Junior Volunteer of the Year, presented to an individual who volunteers his or her time for the betterment of the community over the past year or years (not necessarily recreation related). Nominees must be attending school up to and including level three in the year of eligibility (May to April).
All nominees must be of amateur status and have participated in a sport during the year of eligibility, from May 2016 to April 2017.
Completed nominations forms — including a photo of the nominee and additional information, such as press clippings, references and further correspondence — can be dropped off to Recreation Manager Brandon Reardon’s office at the EEC, emailed to Reardon at brandon@clarenville.net or brought to the following address:
