“Plants are constantly gathering information from their environment and adjusting their behaviour in response,” Karban says.
“They are far more aware of their surroundings than people once thought. They respond to scents in the air, the colour of light, who their neighbours are, and even insects walking across their leaves.”
These responses demonstrate that plants actively process environmental signals, even without possessing brains or nervous systems.

Although scientists stop short of saying plants have personalities in the traditional sense, growing evidence suggests they exhibit consistent and measurable strategies for growth, competition and survival.
