The Clarenville Lions Club held its annual Senior High School Speak Out at the Lion’s Den on Monday, March 4.
Five students from Clarenville High School participated. The speakers, their parents and guests were also treated to a delicious supper served by the Lions.
Liam Chappell spoke on peer pressure. He was awarded third place for his presentation. Rebecca Penney’s presentation was about immunizations. She received the second-place award. First place was awarded to Danica Dean whose topic was the benefits of travel.
Participation awards were also presented to Rachel Andrews (euthanasia) and Sophia Sheppard (swimming).
Dean will now proceed to the Lions Regional SpeakOut, which was scheduled to be hosted by the Musgravetown Lions Club on March 19.
The winner of the Regional Speak Out will represent the region at the District Speak Out, which will be held during the Lions District Convention in Gander on April 13
This competition will involve the winners regional events from St. John’s to Gander area.
The winner of the District Speak Out will represent District N4 at the
Multiple District Speak Out in Halifax on May 24. This competition will feature speakers from Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and four zones from the state of Maine.
