NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation's participation in the Discovery Health Care Foundation's First Regional Walk for Mental Health and Addictions is a first of its kind in the region.
Bonavista's organizers, Gail Brown and Eliza Swyers are determined to make it a one of kind in their hometown.
The Discovery Health Care Foundation is committed to raising five hundred thousand dollars over the next four years in the area that they represent.
They are encouraging their 97 communities to participate. The recent announcement of a "Wellness Centre" for the Bonavista area is part of this move toward making a difference in the lives of those who are affected by Mental Health and Addictions. Tip-A-Vista is not only in partnership with the DHCF but also with Eastern Health.
Bonavista's goal is five hundred participants or ten thousand dollars for the first walk. Their anticipated outcome over the next four years is to see businesses, organizations, denominations, health and service providers and individuals to participate.
Ideally, they want to see at least one of the Mental Health and Addictions Awareness t shirts in every household.
“We need to pull together in our communities to reduce stigma, enhance services and provide activities for those who need it the most,” says Swyers.
The walk takes place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 beginning at the lawn, left of the entrance of the Bonavista Hospital. Offsite parking begins at 2 p.m. at OCI, Irving and Cohen's parking lots.
