Catalina man to go to trial in May on uttering threats and weapons charges

CLARENVILLE, N.L.

Kevin Allen, 37, of Catalina is scheduled to stand trial May 13-14 at Clarenville provincial court in relation to his alleged role in an incident in Bonavista on April 16, 2018, which sent three men to hospital.

Allen faces a total of four charges: two for uttering threats and two for possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He pled not guilty to the charges in provincial court on Thursday, Dec. 20.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Tyler Hicks, also of Catalina, is facing two charges of attempted murder, two charges of aggravated assault and six charges of assault in relation to the same alleged incident.

A preliminary hearing for Hicks had been scheduled for Dec. 4-5 but was postponed to allow for new disclosure.

The preliminary hearing is now set for April 9-10, 2019.

Police allege that on April 16, 2018, Hicks purposefully crashed his vehicle into another before assaulting two men inside the vehicle with a bat in a Bonavista parking lot.

Both men, as well as a third who was also inside the vehicle, were taken to hospital.

Hicks is facing two charges of attempted murder, two charges of aggravated assault, and six charges of assault.

Hicks has elected trial by judge and jury in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.
