A stellar performance for Clarenville skiers at provincials

STEPHENVILLE, N.L. —

Skiers from the Clarenville Nordic Ski Club recently competed at the Cross Country NL Provincial Championships in Stephenville at the Whaleback Nordic Ski Club.

Skiers from atom to masters categories made the Trek to compete in the two-day event.

The Provincial Championships which represent stop number three on the NL Cup Circuit are a two race series consisting of an interval start classic skiing event and a mass start freestyle.

The large contingent of Clarenville Nordic skiers had tremendous success on the trails all weekend. Team members and families grabbed several podium finishes along with personal bests.

Atom Girls - Sarah Coates 4th place

Mini Midget Girls - Jocelyn Coates 1st, Katie Spurrell 2nd

Mini Midget Boys - Isaiah Dalton 2nd, Mark Spurrell 3rd, Charlie Cote 4th

Midget Girls - Jillian Coates 1st Hannah Dalton 2nd

Juvenile Girls - Leah Dalton 5th

Masters 1 Men - Richard Churchill 3rd

Masters 2 Men - Trevor Coates 3rd

Atom Girls - Sarah Coates 6th place

Mini Midget Girls - Jocelyn Coates 1st, Katie Spurrell 3rd

Additionally, Clarenville Nordic Ski Club accumulated enough points for an overall second-place finish in the Gordon Brewer Memorial trophy race awarded annually to the top club at the provincial championships, equaling Clarenville’s best finish to date.
