NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
While this year’s Labour Day Classic Slo-Pitch Softball tournament in Clarenville was historic, incorporating a female division this year, everything went off without a hitch looking ahead to next year’s 40th anniversary of the provincial tournament.
In the women’s division, “Here for Beer” took the top spot, while “Kitty Katz” were the runners up.
As for the men’s divisions, the AFN Hitmen were the A division and overall champions for the second year in a row, defeating the B division winners Stray Katz in the finals.
In C division, Wheelhouse Pub of Clarenville were victorious, and in D, “Gould Rules” took the top spot.
Organizer Scott Maidment told The Packet they were pleased with how the tournament went, seeing excellent both weather and play throughout the long weekend in both men’s and ladies divisions.
He says they’re already looking forward to the 40th year for the event next September.
“We will be planning something special next year for the tournament,” said Maidment.
