The first Republican primary debate of the 2024 presidential race will take place on Wednesday, August 23rd from 9pm to 11pm Eastern. The debate in Milwaukee was endorsed by the Republican National Committee and carried by Fox News. Here are a few ways you can look at it.
Fox News Channel will telecast the event live Eastern starts at 8 p.m – an hour before the debate – and runs past midnight.
Fox Business Network will simulcast the same coverage.
Facebook will be streamed at foxnews.com and on Fox News Channel’s subscription streaming platform Fox Nation.
Online streaming site Rumble will also show the debate as an official RNC partner.
Which candidates will be on stage?
As of Monday evening, the official qualification deadline, eight candidates had made it to the podium. They are: Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota, former Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, former Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina, former Governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, former Vice President Mike Pence, businessman Vivek Ramasamy and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina.
When will they start asking questions?
Immediately, as per discussion guidelines. There are no opening statements.
What about Trump?
Donald J. Trump, the clear front-runner for the nomination, plans to skip the debate. Instead, he recorded an interview with former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson. They plan to post the interview on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to run concurrently with the debate, according to a person with knowledge of the planning.
Mr. Recording an interview with Carlson, Mr. Trump’s decision to make it public when his rivals share the stage is a slap in the face to both the RNC, whose leadership is trying to persuade him to participate in the debate, and Fox News, which hosts the debate, and earlier this year Mr. Removed Carlson.
Who will conduct the discussion?
The debate will be moderated by two Fox News hosts, Brett Baier and Martha McCallum. Mr. Baier previously moderated the Republican debates in 2015 and 2016, and he and Ms. McCallum will face Mr. McCallum in 2020. Chaired a town-hall event with Trump.
